Working with you

We strongly believe that you have only one chance to get sound legal advice. We will never raise your expectations of entitlement in your case to gain your work and then let you down later – we come across this regularly and know it is a painful experience. We would rather exceed your expectations and keep our reputation for sound advice intact.

Many of our clients are fearful about the future and overwhelmed by what may lie ahead. When they come to us, we listen to them and provide realistic advice and expectations about the prospect of their case at the outset. If this is not possible due to the complexity of your case, then our primary objective is to get you in a position where we can advise you on the likely outcome of your case.

At all times, we will be available and a champion to your cause, even if at times that means challenging you or providing you with honest, sympathetic and realistic advice.

We will treat you as an equal and we act with utmost discretion. Many clients come to us because we will not consider our own PR before their privacy and security. If details of our client’s divorce appears in the press, it is usually because they want it to, which we respect. In most cases, however, clients do not want details of their private lives published in the media and we, together with our reputation and media team, have first-hand knowledge and experience of dealing with these situations.

Working with other professionals

Many of our clients come to us with a complex history and resources.  Part of our knowledge and experience is our ability to know when to bring in an expert to complement our services and who, precisely, that expert should be. At its best, our work is a collaboration between you, us and the other professionals we agree to work with.

Depending on your circumstances, we can draw on the added expertise of other teams at Kingsley Napley. We have a longstanding reputation for excellence in the work that we do and clients of our family team benefit from many of the complimentary services our firm offers, including immigration, property, estate and tax planning, reputation management, corporate & commercial and, on occasion, criminal litigation advice.

If required, we will call on additional support from other trusted professionals such as barristers, international lawyers, accountants, relationship counsellors or mediators.  We will only work with third parties and employ people to work as part of our client’s team whom we respect and have first-hand knowledge or experience of.

If there are international issues to be dealt with, we have a large network of contacts across the world who will help us place the right experts for your case. Charlotte Bradley and Jane Keir are fellows of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.

The barristers we work with are leaders in their field and reflect our open and approachable style.

Many of our clients and their families and/or family companies require tax and commercial advice.  It is common still for shares in private companies to be valued, an unappealing and sometimes uncertain process, but where this is required we work with an expert who is appropriate to the task. With our client’s agreement, we will employ highly regarded experts, including accountants and valuers (e.g. property, commercial, art and antiques).

Our clients’ problems are often not just of a commercial but an emotional nature and we know and have good relationships with psychiatrists, psychologists and divorce/relationship coaches, both in the UK and abroad.  Where we feel that our client needs support emotionally, we will direct them to professionals whom we believe are leaders in their field.

We work extensively with the therapeutic community with the objective of providing you with 360 ̊ support.  We have also built relationships with treatment centres for addiction, and only will refer to and work with people who refuse to accept referral fees. We are not afraid to advise you to take a step to work with another that means you will pay us less.
