Thinking About Your Children
Our advice is child-centred and draws on years of experience
We have a broad child-focused practice where children and their best interests are placed at the centre of decision making. Many of our clients come to us following a separation or on divorce, but our children practice also encompasses a leading surrogacy team, further details of which can be found here.
Our advice is child-centred and draws on years of experience. We offer practical solutions that aim to minimise distress to children. We will give you clear and responsive advice in emergency situations.
We can advise you on all of the following areas:
- Spending time with your children following separation or divorce
- Financial provision for children following separation or divorce
- Relocating with children (within this country or overseas)
- Wider support for parents and their children during a separation or divorce, including working with therapists and mental health professionals
- Domestic abuse and safeguarding
- Abduction
- Parental alienation
Our clients’ first concern is often what will happen to their children as a result of the divorce or separation. As all parents will know, every child is different and will respond differently to their parents’ separation We support clients and, where relevant, we seek input from other expert professionals (for example, child and family therapists, counsellors, mediators and child psychologists).
We appreciate that a solution that worked for one family is not necessarily appropriate for yours. We will spend time understanding your goals and priorities so that we can achieve the best outcome for you and your family.
It may be that you will also need advice on financial support for your children. This is particularly the case if you were not married as financial provision for your children will not be dealt with as part of the divorce. Our team has a longstanding reputation in advising parents in these circumstances. Our work is recognised by the leading legal directories and Charlotte Bradley, has co-authored a leading book for practitioners on this subject.
We understand the importance of helping you resolve potential or actual disputes as quickly and amicably as possible, recognising your need to maintain an ongoing relationship as parents in the future. We recognise that legal solutions imposed by the court are not always in the best interests of our clients and their children, but in some circumstances, a court process is necessary. In that situation, we use our experience to guide you through the process and ensure you have robust representation.
