Julie’s expertise lies in advising professionals and professional services firms, particularly in the accountancy, audit and built environment sectors, on regulatory compliance, investigations and enforcement proceedings, including a focus on sexual misconduct in the workplace issues.
Julie assists clients with a range of regulatory issues, ranging from non-contentious advice on compliance with a regulator’s rules and procedures, to defending clients subject to regulatory investigations and prosecutions.
She has particular expertise in advising auditors and audit firms in proceedings brought under the Financial Reporting Council’s) (“FRC”) Audit Enforcement Procedure (“AEP”), accountants and accountancy firms in respect of issues with their regulation by the FRC, ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA; insolvency practitioners in respect of IPA or ICAEW interventions; and built environment professionals and firms in relation to issues with professional bodies including RICS and ARMA.
Julie also has significant experience in advising the buyer or target in mergers, acquisitions and private equity transactions in the accountancy market. She has worked on some of the most high-profile transactions in the market in recent years, in which she assesses the regulatory compliance of corporate structures, carries out regulatory due diligence and advises on transactional and governance documents to ensure that they are compliant with the ICAEW’s and FRC’s regulatory requirements.
Julie is regularly brought into transactions by large US law firms to advise on specific UK regulatory issues, given her experience in this area.
