Dawn manages a diverse claimant medical negligence caseload, encompassing moderate-value complex claims (including fatal claims requiring inquests) to high-value and catastrophic injury claims, such as those for brain and spinal injured children.

She has a reputation for technical rigour – great attention to detail, with excellent knowledge and command of the disclosure; a sensible, calm, and unflappable approach; superb judgement; combined with empathetic and excellent client care.

She brings to her practice a wealth of medical knowledge gained during her previous career as a Registered Nurse and is accredited by AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents) and The Law Society.

Recent Cases

Birth injury: The failure to diagnose a placental abruption and delay in performing a caesarean section, as a result of which the Claimant sustained a significant brain injury resulting in bilateral dystonic cerebral palsy. The Claimant received a substantial lump sum and annual payments for life, which, on a capitalised basis, are equivalent to an award of £14.6m.

Birth injury: A negligent instrumental delivery in which forceps were wrongly applied and then excessive force and rotation were applied, causing a spinal cord injury. The injuries affected the Claimant’s ability to breathe independently and caused dependence on a tracheostomy and a ventilator. The Claimant received a substantial lump sum and annual payments for life, which, on a capitalised basis, are equivalent to an award of £22.5m.

Surgical negligence:
A claim against a private clinician and hospital concerning an unnecessary and negligently performed procedure, causing injury, followed by multiple unnecessary invasive procedures. The Claimant ultimately required major and life-changing surgery which could and should have been avoided. The Claimant is left with chronic pain, diabetes, and suffered psychiatric injury. The Claimant’s career was irreparably damaged, and capacity to work compromised. The Claimant recovered damages at settlement shortly before trial of £3.9m.
