In this part James and Paul talk about claims where babies are severely injured at birth and the widely publicised issues surrounding the costs associated with these cases. Their discussion includes the need to get back to the root cause of these claims and improve maternity services with upfront investment. They talk about the costs of the legal claims system but the fact that any alternative to this would need to be just as good in terms of compensation for families. They also consider the improvements being made in the quality of internal investigations within hospital trusts which is a positive step forward for safety management.
