Surgical negligence – Settled for £150,000

Our team acted for a client who suffered injury during the course of a routine treatment carried out in private practice.

Our client had paid privately for sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins. It was carried out by a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon.

During the procedure the surgeon inadvertently injected one of the Claimant’s main arteries in her foot, a well known risk with the treatment in question. The Claimant subsequently developed pain in her foot which gradually became worse. Despite seeking advice about this on a number of occasions, she was not given a specific diagnosis or treatment.

Due to the initial injury and the subsequent delays in treatment the Claimant developed necrosis in her foot and had to undergo a below knee amputation on 28 July 2008. The Claimant’s leg would have been saved had the problem been identified and treated in a timely manner.

The surgical negligence and subsequent amputation caused significant distress and changes to our client’s lifestyle.
