Usually in extradition cases the system operates on the basis of mutual trust and confidence and respect for other countries' legal systems, but in this case they've said that the benefit of doubt of the Russian Federation should be reconsidered," Rebecca Niblock, Shmatko's lawyer and a partner at Kingsley Napley LLP, told Law360. She added, however, that the alleged offenses took place in Russia and that the ruling will not necessarily apply to all similar cases"

He refused to comply with demands made of him by the [Federal Security Service]," Niblock said. "It's a common Russian tactic, called corporate raiding, to come up with these concocted allegations when people don't hand over their assets."
