Melinka Berridge Promoted to Head of Kingsley Napley’s Regulatory Practice

Kingsley Napley is pleased to announce that Melinka Berridge has been appointed to Head of its Regulatory practice with effect from 1 November.

A partner with the firm since 2012, Melinka specialises in the fields of regulatory law, health & safety, private prosecutions and public inquiries. She acts for some of the UK’s leading regulators; principally in the education and healthcare sectors. She manages the firm’s contracts with the Education Workforce Council, the General Dental Council, the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Teaching Regulation Agency. She is a highly experienced health & safety lawyer, with a particular expertise in the leisure and the built environment sectors. She recently represented a number of senior officers from the London Fire Brigade who gave evidence to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry

Melinka succeeds Nicola Hill as the head of a team which has been consistently recognised by Chambers UK and Legal 500 as a leader in its field. It comprises over 50 solicitors, barristers and paralegals who investigate and prosecute regulatory cases, as well as defend students, professionals and regulated organisations facing investigations and disciplinary action.

Linda Woolley, Managing Partner at Kingsley Napley, said

Our Regulatory practice is highly respected by peers and clients alike and excels in many fields, from representing regulators, defending professionals under scrutiny, to guiding organisations on good governance and regulatory compliance. Their workload is varied and ever-growing and Melinka’s breadth of experience and energy make her the perfect choice to oversee the team’s continued success and ensure it continues to go from strength-to-strength.”

Melinka was a criminal barrister in New Zealand before being admitted to the roll of solicitors for England and Wales in 2006. Prior to joining Kingsley Napley in 2009, she was Head of Licensing for JD Wetherspoon plc. In the latest legal directories, Melinka is ranked band 2 in Chambers 2024, and a ‘Leading Individual’ in Legal 500 2024 in the field of Professional Discipline. She is recognised in Legal 500 2024’s ‘Hall of Fame’ in the field of Health & Safety and ranked band 2 in Chambers 2024 in the field of Financial Crime: Private Prosecutions.
