Reacting to the ruling, Rebecca Niblock, a partner at Kingsley Napley, the London law firm that acted for the oligarch, said the case highlighted the need for “serious reconsideration of UK-Russia extradition relations”

The lawyer added that the ruling demonstrated that “not before time . . . a failure by the requesting state to provide accurate information to the court may prove fatal to their request for extradition and any assurances they seek to rely on”.

Kingsley Napley instructed Mark Summers, QC, of Matrix Chambers in Gray’s Inn, while the extradition unit of the Crown Prosecution Service instructed Peter Caldwell of Doughty Street Chambers and Nicholas Hearn of Furnival Chambers.
