EU Settlement Scheme – app available on iPhones at last

Following our blog earlier this year in August, finally the EU Settlement Scheme app is available on iPhones.  As part of an application for pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, EU citizens and their family members must demonstrate their identity. 

They do that by scanning in their biometric passport using the app or, much less conveniently, sending it to the Home Office.  To date, only Android phones have been compatible with the app and so it is a useful development from Apple.  Only iPhones 8 or newer can currently be used, with the iPhone 7 “shortly” receiving the necessary software update. 

iPhone users will need to ensure they have iOS 13.1 or newer, at least 120MB of storage space to install the app, be connected to 3G, 4G or WiFi  and the app will need to be connected to the phone’s camera.  A compliant photo of the personal details page of the biometric passport and a ‘selfie’ of the applicant need to be uploaded as part of the EU Settlement Scheme application.
