Beware SOC Codes when posting JobCentre Plus adverts

Kingsley Napley LLP's immigration team has learnt that JobCentre Plus is now assigning SOC Codes to roles it advertises, without always consulting employers first.

A SOC Code is now an obligatory part of an advert on the medium. Employers advertising roles that do not obviously fit within a particular SOC Code should liaise with JobCentre Plus about how their jobs will be presented on the site.

Tier 2 registered sponsors wishing to recruit someone from outside the EEA to a skilled role where the salary package is less than £150,000pa must advertise that role for four weeks on the JobCentre Plus website. This is a required part of the Resident Labour Market Test, which must be completed before a position can be given to an individual under Tier 2 (General).
