AvMA Conference 2016

A number of our Clinical Negligence team attended the Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) 2016 annual conference in Brighton.

The theme of the conference was oncology and numerous medical experts discussed the diagnosis and treatment of different forms of cancer, including breast cancer, melanoma and bowel cancer.

Clinical negligence claims sometimes arise from failure to diagnose cancer, inappropriate cancer treatment, or poorly performed reconstructive procedures. Cases of this type require specialist medical and legal expertise when dealing with the technical aspects of the claim; in particular, when establishing the difference between the patient’s condition following negligent treatment and the outcome that they would have experienced, if they had received a reasonable standard of care.  This year’s excellent AvMA conference provided a valuable opportunity to explore, in greater depth, issues related to cancer diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.
