Stephen Parkinson, Senior Partner, writes a letter in The Times in which he suggests that the way in which the government has conducted its inquiry into the Huawei leak is of deep concern.

Sir, The amateurish way in which the government has conducted its inquiry into the Huawei leak is a matter of deep concern. You have reported that ministers and their advisers have been issued with questionnaires asking them, among other matters, to provide details of their mobile phones and to say whether they spoke to The Daily Telegraph after the National Security Council meeting.

Professional investigations are not conducted on the assumption that suspects will courteously admit their culpability. Interviews should have been conducted without notice within hours of the leak, and phones seized so that they could be properly examined. By now all evidence will have disappeared; the government’s negligent handling of the incident will be responsible for that outcome.
