Digital strip search: How everything from Facebook messages to Fitbit data could be used against you in court – Sandra Paul comments in The Telegraph

Sandra Paul, a partner in our Criminal Litigation team, comments in The Telegraph about the news that police may demand victims of rape and sexual assault to grant them the right to examine and store information extracted from their personal devices if they want an
investigation to go ahead.

Sandra comments:

"Kingsley Napley criminal litigation partner Sandra Paul argues that wearable technology such as Fitbits or mobile devices could act as "technology witnesses" and provide valuable data that can support events in an independent manner."

"These are things that happen in private, so they can provide an objective view about timelines, they can provide an objective view about what happened."

"What you want is a fair trial, no matter what side of the aisle you are on. We need to look at really clear guidelines, documenting who has access to it, things that would give people peace of mind."
